There’s something heavy about this one.
Built up in oils with rough brushwork, sharp shapes, and colors that move between cold blues and burnt oranges, the face almost feels like it’s coming apart and pulling itself back together at the same time.
I wanted the piece to feel imposing without making it clean or perfect. There’s a lot of character in the imperfections - the uneven edges, heavy shadows, and places where the paint is allowed to stay raw.
The oversized gold frame takes it somewhere else entirely. Something rough presented like royalty.
